Hepatitis B virus (HBV) causes one of the world's most common infectious diseases. More than 400 million people are thought to be chronically infected with HBV and it is estimated that HBV-associated cirrhosis and primary hepatocellular carcinoma are responsible for 1 to 2 million deaths per year. An understanding of the virus and the prevention and treatment of HBV-associated liver disease is therefore of crucial importance. The second edition presents a clear, up-to-date analysis of HBV, including its molecular biology, epidemiology and transmission, and provides a comprehensive account of the prevention and management of HBV infection.
